Did you ever have one of those moments where you think “Man, I sucked as a mom”.
I think that often, I gave my daughter all the things I wished I had as a kid, not because my dad was a bad parent, it’s just that moms tend to do things a little differently than dads do. Not wrong not right, just different.
I look at all the awesome things that other moms do, especially the stay at home ones. Man, I sometimes really envy them. When their kids were sick, they don’t have to do some balancing game of trying to either find somewhere for their children to go, or be stressed out about not going to work.
I was looking at all the amazing things that others are doing with that Elf on a Shelf and just different Christmas things people do… and I was the worst mom ever. Ok, maybe not ever, but surely I wish I would have thought of some of those ideas. I guess that’s why we get grandkids (but not for a few years, ok, Phyllis?) so that when we see these great ideas, we can do them then.
Sometimes we (and by we, I mean I) compare ourselves to others, and we can be so hard on ourselves… But I think, actually I know, God doesn’t want us to do that. He wants us to love Him, love ourselves, and love each other. And I am not saying love ourselves in a vain or conceited way, but to accept ourselves as beautiful so that we can love others that way too!

I am so thankful that I got to be a mom to my girl Phyllis. I am sure I made plenty of mistakes but honestly I know that I did a good job as a mom. Or at the very least, I did the best I could. Sure, I gave her the example of always being on the run, that we do whatever it takes to be successful, and sometimes that comes at a price, but excellence is honoring to God and a reflection of His character. I think the only thing I would change is that I would have opened my heart to others more, and risked love a little more. All the good, and the not so good, I can’t worry about it, because there is nothing I can do to change any of it. I can only move forward, and love the biggest I can, every day.
