I read this poem right after 9-11. I knew who God was, but I didn’t really know Him. Know His Sovereignty, know His goodness. I put very little faith in Him to ever take care of me, after all, I was quite a mess (I haven’t always been some church mom). But I hoped that He would take care of my daughter, she didn’t do anything.
I remember being so angry about 9-11. How could God let such a thing happen? Ugh! And my friend Cheree sent me this poem. And when I don’t understand something, I think of this poem, and I look it up and read it. I know that God has it all under control and I will never understand all that He does or doesn’t do. But I trust that He has a plan.
I’d like to share the poem with you.
I believe He makes no mistakes.

My Father’s way may twist and turn,
My heart may throb and ache,
But in my soul I’m glad to know,
He makes no mistakes,
My cherished plans may go astray,
My hopes may fade away,
But still I’ll trust my Lord to lead,
For He doth know the way,
Though the night be dark and it may seem,
That day will never break,
I’ll pin my faith, my all in Him,
He makes no mistake,
There’s so much now I cannot see,
My eyesight’s far too dim,
But come what may, I’ll simply trust,
And leave it all to Him,
For by and by the mist will lift,
And plain it all He’ll make,
Through all the way, though dark to me,
He made not one mistake.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8, 9 NIV)
