One thing that no one prepares you for when someone dies is alllllllll the stuuufffff. Like for realz. My dad didn't even have a lot of stuff and he had a lot of stuff to get rid of, and we kept some things...
the end of the year comes and i start doing purges. One around thanksgiving, a big one between Xmas and New Years! Yeap did those! Got rid of a lot of things.
Today after work i decided to clean out a writing desk i have! I filled the shredder twice- which is the equivalent of a 13 gal trash bag, a bag of garbage, and a box of donations.
Oh by golly i had a lot of cards! I had some of last years Xmas cards, one pack from this year! I threw those in the donation pile! I looked at things and remembered the idea i had when i bought the things... great idea i thought as it went to the donation pile 🙄
I feel like it just gets wilder and wilder every year! It's like the stuff multiplies!
in the last year of cleaning out my dad's house, it filled my own house with lots of stuff. it was so much work.... but also... I love sentimental things so it's a hard line to walk.
This will probably always be a thing for me, but doing purges gets me closer to living with less stuff and a tidy house. it took hours/days to clean out my dad's house and I didn't even think he had that much stuff. It was so hard, and even though I hope to be around for a long time, I don't want to make it any harder on my daughter than it already is going to be.
Let's hope in the coming year, I get red of more than I bring in the house (and garage)!
