what is normal? because I think I came out of the womb anxious. Maybe not out of the womb but definitely by 2nd grade. I grew up in the era of "if you don't stop crying I will give you something to cry about". I hate that so much. I cry all the time. I can be soooo happy... crying... angry... crying out (watch out for that!), sad... weeping. I've even suppressed emotions so much that I have been afraid to laugh too much or I'd start crying with the release of emotion.
I will get to whatever it looks like to not be anxious. It might take some time, it may take some work, but I will get there.
I was out in the garden today and started giving the tomatoes some big haircuts. The tomatoes that are near the patio had their first haircuts a few weeks ago but the ones in the "back 40" 😆 hadn't had their first haircut and many needed to be staked up but I had run out of stakes and tomato cages (I was not ready for the insanity of 43 tomato plants) so today I gave the 12 plants by the patio their pruning and the 10 in one of the beds their first haircuts. It was crazy! Couldn't see the basil, green beans, jalapeños... if I can't see them then they can't see the sun and as a gardener, I know that's not good. There is a time for everything...
Pruning refers to the selective removal of specific parts of a plant—such as branches, buds, or roots—to improve its health, shape, and productivity. More broadly, the term means cutting away unnecessary or unwanted elements to reduce excess and improve overall efficiency. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
In Gardening and Landscaping
- In horticulture, pruning is both an art and a science.
- Improve Health: Remove dead, diseased, or broken branches to stop decay and prevent pest infestations.
- Encourage Growth: Redirect energy to healthy branches and improve airflow and sunlight penetration in the plant's canopy.
- Increase Yield: Boost flower and fruit production by cutting away non-productive wood.
As I continue to work on myself and remove things from my life... it's not easy (even though I know change is good), I don't mind change but I hate letting go. As someone who has done without, sometimes letting go is difficult. You might not think so since I do love a good purge!
It's actually hard to give the tomato plants haircuts because I love seeing the growth. And I have to cut back so much that sometimes it means I have to cut down blossoms that would, at some point, because tomatoes. If I don't cut them back, the plants will break, the plants won't get sun, which means the tomatoes won't turn red (or whatever cool color tomato I planted) so cutting them back will mean healthier plants, more ripe tomatoes to devour (or share) this summer. And there will be basil and jalapeños and beans 😆
Sometimes we have to be pruned. back to have the best fruit. And all that God has intended for us. Without pruning it's just chaos and we can't be all we need to be.
