Sew... buttons

 I was cleaning off my desk in my office.  I actually have two desks.  one I work at and one that is a small writing desk, to which I do no writing, it's more like a place I store things... 

I found a box that belonged to my dad.  It had thread and buttons... so many buttons...  and some snaps and the tools to put them on...  why?  I am not sure.  My dad had those buttons for a long time... and in the last two years of having those buttons, thread... and snaps 😂 I was thinking about how my dad had so much brown and navy thread.  My dad used to darn his socks... for those of you born after 1980 it basically means he would sew his socks when they had a hole in them.  seems crazy.  He used to say the best way to do it was to put the sock around a light bulb and then stitch it.

And back in the day when you bought something with buttons, theyd give you an extra in case a button came loose, and my dad saved them!  For what? I am not sure! but I have them!at least for a little while.

I threw the snapper away and SOME of the buttons and some of the other junk.... but I swapped the box for the buttons for a bag and kept a bag of them.  It seems silly.  What will I do with these buttons? I don't know and I saved the thread.  

It's funny the ways of the world and the ways things have changed.  Seems crazy that my dad darned his socks or is it crazy that we don't now? I'm not sure which is right or which is wrong but I just know it's not the same.

I feel like I live the best of both worlds. Well except that I don't really know how to sew LOL I love to can, and I love that I have an electric pressure canner.  I love that I can grow tons of varieties of tomatoes in my own garden, share what I grow and... buy canning tomatoes to can for my pantry.  

I know how to cook from scratch but can buy what I need at Costco LOL. I can spatchcock a chicken but I also know that I can buy chicken precut.  

Life is crazy when there is so many memories created and so many more to create and the value is knowing that both are important.💓
