Lock In

We’ve started some great things in our Alive ministry. Lately we’ve gotten a new teaching to listen to every week. It’s been awesome!! Yesterday I listened to a teaching on prayer (and prayer myths) it was AWESOME!!!

Tonight is our Fall Fuel Rockin’ Lock In. We have two lock in’s a year. I swear it takes me half the year to recooperate. We don’t sleep. It will be over 25 hours for me without sleep. Sometimes I take a quick cat nap, but that’s an hour or less, sometimes I just stick it out.

I love the Lock Ins, I love them because the kids love them. Some of the stuff we do totally grosses me out, but it makes the kids happy! We also have a speaker come and give a teaching about God. Because, with all the fun, that’s the part that matters. I love that we do so many things for Jr. Highers & High Schoolers to see that being a Christian doesn’t mean it’s boring, it just means you love Jesus and you live your life for Him.

My job is the food. We have pizza and pop around midnight, snacks somewhere through the night… tonight its veggies & dip, apples, peanut butter, & caramel, cheese and crackers, and pancakes for breakfast, I try not to completely fill them up on junk. We usually do donuts for breakfast, however, it’s A LOT cheaper doing pancakes (more work but cheaper) and I really think a lot better!

And BTW... the scarf will be there!!

Pray that God moves in the hearts of our students, that tonight is safe and FUN and love is everywhere!!

Phil 1:9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,

Prayer wall

I'm no stranger to the power of prayer. I've been on my knees before God with requests, from little to big. I would not say that I am a good outloud pray-er. Somehow my heart and my mouth can't connect when other people are listening. but when I am in my car, I throw down, sometimes I am like "wow, did I just say that?"
In the last week or so, I've really been "throwing down", I have even prayed for businesses and the people in them as I've driven by, I've prayed for one of my friends to get to the doctor (you know who you are, I hope I don't have to drive you myself... lol...), my cousin who has breast cancer, Alive, Selena, Alive6, you name it.
And you know what, even though I thought I was pretty close to God, I've never felt closer. I've heard Him speak, and I feel like there is a prayer wall now. A wall around me that surrounds and protects. As if God is saying "I am protecting you, I will build this wall so that you are safe". Maybe that sounds odd, maybe it's just an odd feeling, but it really feels real.

Psalm 78:13 He divided the sea and led them through; he made the water stand firm like a wall.
I wanted to update you about something... I wrote the post above before I left for work... I was on my way to work this morning... ironically listening to a teaching about prayer. I had this overwhelming feeling to stop and pray for the leaders of our corporation. I mean it was so overwhelming, I couldn't concentrate on the CD. I was MOVED. I stopped and prayed. Our Youth Pastor says you have to prayer like 'a mother' and some may say oh my... a mother what? but the truth is you need to pray like a mother because it's probably true that no one prays like a mother for her child. So I prayed like a mother :)

Crazy week behind... crazy week ahead

We had temporary lay offs for some this week. Ugh, that was tough. I have done a lot, and when I mean a lot, I mean constant, prayer this week.

I've been posting scripture all over my house. A new one a day. I've said 100 times if I said once "God did not give us a spirit of fear but of one of power and strength" not sure if that's the exact saying... but that's what I've been saying...

A new chapter in the Book of Life (Bible) has been posted at my desk for all to read.

So this week was stressful, next week is busy... trunk or treat, Fuel, Alive meeting, Halloween Lock In... I can't wait! God is working in me and I hope through me!

Today it's errands & things around the house...

1. Aldi's

2. Blocks

3. Kroger

4. Walmart

5. Walgreens

6. Clean house

7. Raking

8. Planning food for lock in

9. Cuddlebug

10. Prayer and Praise!

And in between drops, hopefully a walk!

“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”- Ephesians 5:19-20

I want...

I was listening to WMUZ this morning. For only a minute to be honest because I get a toothache from that station in the morning and the afternoon... it's too sweet. I don't mean any disrespect, it's just not my thing.

I miss Rhonda. Everyday when I hit the button, even though I know she won't be there, I wish she was. You know why? because she was real and raw.

There is a song that we sing at church "Mighty to Save" often it is a constant ringing in my brain. Today MUZ played it by some really "churchy" singing woman. BLEC!!! I tried, I kept telling myself it's about the words not about the sound, worship is not about music its about your heart in ALL you do.

I subscribe to this crazy thing... if you don't like something and you think it should be better... DO SOMETHING besides complaining. Seriously. if a counter needs wiping, don't complain, wipe it. If something doesn't run the way you think it should be run, help, make suggestions and be a part of the change.

So I wrote a letter. I don't expect that they change their programming, I bet a lot of people don't think it's too sweet, but I want a station that reaches teenagers and college age students. I want a place where they can hear about real life and ways that they won't fall trappings to this world, where struggles are abound but Jesus rules and He saves. Put your faith in Him, it's all there is. I don't want them to turn to 89X, 95.5, or 96.3, I want them to turn to Jesus. I want songs of all kinds, rap, rock, all Christian, local youth bands, local youth group bands, all the time. The gifts are given by God, let's use them AND BE BLESSED BY THEM!

It's more than a want, it's a need. People invest in the lives of teenagers on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and I am tired of the world undoing with unlove what we do in love. Ok, I said it.

I want them to be able to have a place to listen to God before school, after school, while hanging out with Christian friends, with non-Christian friends. Being Christian doesn't mean you're uncool or you don't have fun, it means you love Christ. It means your fun is had and there aren't consequences.

Please pray for this. And please continue to pray for this generation.
Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.

Shine the Light!

I was thinking about shining the light of Christ and how sometimes we make it a lot harder than it really it is! Let’s just break it down simply like the light in your house! It seems kind of elementry... but we're supposed to come to Jesus like little children...

If you want the light to shine on you, you’ve got to open the drapes (your heart). You wouldn’t keep everything all closed up expecting to get light in, now would you. Light shines best when things are open, and God works best in your heart if it’s open to Him.

You’ve got to keep your light bulbs replaced. You’ve got to read, sing, worship, meet new friends who are Christians. Just like a light bulb, somethings only last for a short time, things in our lives are sometimes just there for a season. And you’ve got to prepare! Have CDs in your car, have new books ready to read, teachings… keep your light bulbs stocked.

Pay your electric bill. Read your bible, do things for others, you’ve got to be prepared… you wouldn’t expect for the lights to work if you didn’t prepare, and you can’t expect God to work in you if you don’t do anything. Now occasionally you don’t pay the bill and the electric company forgets to turn the juice off, and I think God can do that too… but it’s much better if you prepare. Although, with Jesus, your bill is already paid.

Turn the lights on wherever you go! Be a blessing to people. You don’t turn the lamp next to the bed and expect it to light the whole house do you? Just is the same, you can’t just be a blessing in one place and expect to shine all over. You’ve got to be a blessing wherever you go.

A lot of times I sign things “be blessed, be a blessing”. It’s great to be blessed. Sometimes there is no greater feeling than being covered by the blanket of grace. There’s nothing like the light and the heat from the Son-shine. I believe that we are put on this earth to be Jesus in a real way to people who already believe and people who don’t.

I was thinking about the bridge in the song 'Mighty to Save' by Hillsong...

Shine your light and let the whole world see,We're singing for the glory of the risen King...Jesus!

2 Corin 4:6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

I said the other day that we started an official prayer ministry at Alive, I also have a new prayer partner, Selena! I already loved Selena. She’s a great girl not because of what she does, but because of her heart. It’s only been 3 days, but I have to tell you, this has had a great influence on my life. I find myself praying more, reading the Word more, and I’m more positive.

I’ve found that with some people, the more I try to be nice and even help them, the meaner they are to me, and I just have to be who I am and just take it. That’s not easy. I want to punch them, but instead, I throw the Word at them. They don’t know it but they are being pelletted by prayer and scripture. HA! And that’s not easy, but I know that I can’t change their heart, but God can. I also know that I can’t change them but my attitude can change me.

I caught myself today. I was about to say something that wasn’t nice. And part of Eph 4:29 isn’t just about building someone up, but it’s to benefit those who listen. (Eph 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.) It’s funny that scripture is speaking to me in so many ways. I even have been thinking of someone in particular that was just really mean to me, and how that affected me and in that, how forgiveness will affect me even greater.

I still am not giving up on going to Austria. God is working, I know it, and I can’t wait to give praises to Him because of this and how He is working in my heart and in the hearts of others. Maybe some see this as frivolous; maybe they think ‘there are greater causes’. But its not about a vacation, it’s about the kids I will be with besides Phyllis and how in some way, I will be the Jesus they need when they are tired and frustrated. About how God will work in them and in me while we are there.

Maybe you have a mom. But I never had one. And you know that I have struggled with being a mom and doing the right thing Phyllis’s whole life. It’s not being something that you’ve never had an everyday example of. I have no memories of my mom. For one minute, think about that. I know she loved me, I have one great example of how much she loved me, but I never remember being kissed on the head or a hug from her. I’m thankful to have a wonderful dad, and I have a lot of great memories with him, but I have no memories of vacations and inside jokes with my mom. And so part of this is memories with Phyllis. I will never forget “but who will I share Europe with?” that she asked me. Ugh. God will make a way. I am standing strong in Him to provide this way, and for earthly angels and companies that I am writing letters to be Jesus in a real way for us. It’s a small task for God to handle.

Standing... strong

I don't think living in a world of uncertainity ever gets easier. I think the stronger we try to stand, the more we're attacked, the more someone tries to pull the carpet out from under us.

I do believe this about me. When the world gets scary, I retreat. I read more (I know it's wierd, I read in the bathroom - so I moved one of the copies of my bible to 'the drawer'.) The Word becomes so much of who I am, running through my veins that I can't help but have it come from my lips.

I never thout about it before (until last night when Miguel was teaching) that saying bad things is just as bad as everything else...

Look at Eph 5:3-4 (I've read it tons of times before)

3But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

It's in the same passage as sexual immorality and greed. I mean I've known that swearing, gossiping... it's all bad. Sin is sin. But I guess last night I had a "duh" moment. You know those kind where you just smack the top of your head and say "DUH!"

I know I'm a work in progress. I know that one does not change overnight, but I also know that once we are in Christ, we are a new creation (2 Cor 5:17) and for me, everyday means that I need to accept to live in His light everyday. Everyday is a new opportunity to live in His light, to grow in His Word and spread more of His love while feeling more loved everyday.

So I'm standing strong. I am in Christ! I am a new creation! There's no need to be scared, God is with us always!

Thank You Jesus for Your Word, Thank You Holy Spirit for continuing to work in us everyday.

I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”- Psalm 40:8
Oh... and I started posting different scripture at my desk everyday... and PEOPLE ARE COMING BY JUST TO READ IT!! Today is Joshua 1

NIV

1 Cor 10:12-13 If you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. Gal 2:20 0 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. NIV

Ps 55:22 Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. NIV

Doing God's Will

1 John 2:16-17 For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. NIV

Dominionship of Sin

John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." NIV

Rom 6:18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. NIV

Rom 6:22-23 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. NIV

Holy Spirit

Eph 4:30-31 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. NIV

1 Thess 5:19 9 Do not put out the Spirit's fire NIV

Rom 8:5 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. NIV

Rom 8:13-15 3 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. NIV

Gal 5:16-18 6 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. NIV

Rom 8:9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. NIV

John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. NIV

2 Tim 2:25-26 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will. NIV

Living for Him

2 Cor 5:14-15
For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. NIV

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. NIV

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. NIV

James 4:4 You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. NIV

1 John 5:19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. NIV

No Confidence in Flesh

Phil 3:3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh- NIV

Phil 3:8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ NIV

Gal 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. NIV

Rom 8:5-6 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace NIV

Col 3:5-8 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. NIV

Col 3:1-3 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. NIV

Gal 6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. NIV

Heb 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. NIV

Our weapons

2 Cor 10:3-5
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. NIV

Eph 6:10-18 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. NIV

At Peace

Col 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. NIV

John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." NIV

Phil 4:6-7 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. NIV

Renewing of Your Mind

Rom 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. NIV

Col 3:1-3 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. NIV

Col 1:9-14 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. NIV

Resist the Devil

James 4:7-8 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. NIV

1 Peter 5:8-11 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. NIV

1 Tim 1:18-19 Fight the good fight, 19 holding on to faith and a good conscience. NIV

1 Tim 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. NIV

2 Tim 2:3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. NIV

Stand Firm

Eph 6:12-18 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Isa 40:28-31 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. I didn't have much to write about this weekend. I just sat in it and enjoyed it!

Friday night I cleaned the basement and threw away a bunch of junk got donations ready! I had to rearrange the freezer downstairs! I was excited to find some country ribs that I had forgotten I had... It meant that we were going to have ribs & spaghetti for dinner on Sunday! YUMMY it's one of our favorite dinners.

Saturday cleaned more, the window sills were gross! So that is cleaned up, spent some time at home, and some running errands. We went to see Mama Mia at the dollar show (I know some people really liked it, and i can see it's draw... but YUCK!) and then home for homemade pizza and Favot brought over Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream... and we watched Beauty and the Beast.

I overslept on Sunday (I wanted to be at a cheering station for Stacy) so I stayed home and relaxed and prepared for the week! Phyllis and I went for a 45 minute walk (we talked about training for the 5K that we - Stacy, Phyllis, & I - are running)and enjoyed the beautiful fall colors and were amazed at the beauty that God painted for us in our own neighborhood... it's nice to travel up north for the "color tour" however, it's nice to recongnize beauty in our own surroundings. We took pictures, I'll post them later.

We had Alive last night and it was SWEET! More Jesus Freak Stuff! We also started our Prayer Partners, my partner is Selena, I was so excited about that... and we rolled out the Alive prayer calendar (I can send you a copy if you want one!)

It was a great weekend! I like the kind where things at home get accomplished and time is spent loving each other!

Eph 3:1 [Blessings in Christ] Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

Prayer for today:
Every Monday: Pray that we would clearly hear God's direction for the ministry and heed his calling

I'm not giving up on the dream!

Because of some financial issues (I won't be paid the last week of December - it's usually paid vacation but this year due to a lot of reasons we will have this time off unpaid), I have been contemplating not going on the Austria trip. I have been thinking of the things that need to be taken care of around here. And that money just needs to go somewhere else. A furnace, some kind of transportation for Phyllis once she gets her license, SAVINGS so if this happens again I don't have to freak out...

I told Phyllis, I knew she was disappointed. I actually didn't grasp the level of disappoint until last night when we were talking about how our needs will be met (thank You Jesus, it's all YOU!) even though I won't be paid at the end of December. She was excited about that but even more so she said "so you're going to Europe?" I said "no, we still have to save in case this happens again". Her response "who will I share Europe with?" I wanted to die. Right there. I knew it was going to be cool to experience the Hayden Festival together, we had already met Maestro Eric Knapp I was going to be the proudest mom there, thanking Jesus the whole time! But I didn't think it really meant that much to HER.

I truly can't believe that God would put this on my heart and then take it away. I want to go, I've always wanted to go. So I am praying. Please God send the money for this blessing! I want to go! And I believe that will come as surely as I remember Him saying to me the night of the meeting as I was crying thinking there is no way I can do this... He said "I put this in front of you, haven't I always provided for you" and so I am still standing on those words. He loves me and I pray that this trip is in His will, and I will keep saving for the necessities and I am praying this opportunity comes and the Glory to Him. And everyone on the plane, in the high school, in Austria will hear of His Glory!

Matthew 21:21-22 21Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

What I will do... with my extra time off

1. Pick up my daughter from school (I rarely get to do this so I am happy) and drive her to school without freaking out because we are always late! Praise God for a beautiful daughter and a car!

2. Clean house (do the stuff that never gets done). Praise God for a house to clean!

3. Make dinner. Praise God for food (full cupboards) and a family to cook for!

4. Catch up on the scrapbooking that needs to be done. Praise God for the memories!

5. Read. Praise God that I can read and I have books and eyes that see!

6. Relax. Praise God for some rest!

7. Clean out and donate! (stop by Mom's to pick up her donations too) Praise God for too much stuff that can be passed on to someone else!

8. Take walks (and go to the gym) and maybe start my training for the 5K! Praise God for a healthy body that works!

9. Pray! Praise God for the connection He allows us to have with Him!

10. Praise God! Praise God! Praise God! Praise God! Praise God!

As if to say...

For I know…

Yes, I, that’s a big I little you

The plans

What’s going on right now, what’s going to happen

I have for you

Again, it’s what greatness I have for you, I’ve never left you before, I’m not leaving you now.

declares the Lord.

I've said it, you know there’s no one bigger. That’s why they call me Lord.

"plans to prosper you

That’s means great things will happen for you

and not to harm you

I’m going to make sure you’re ok. I’d leave 99 to come get you. I got up on a cross to save you, remember.

plans to give you hope and a future.

Hope. Remember hope, it’s the one thing you can hold on to, it means things will get better. Future. What lies ahead, it might be a little bumpy, but keep your eyes on me. It’s going to be fine, I promise.

God isn't subtle in the way He speaks to me. He knows I'm not good with subtle. Much better with black and white, open and shut. I laughed out loud when the verse of the day was Jer 29:11. It's great to be loved!

Jer 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Psalm 67:6 Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us.

Psalm 85:12 The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.

I got some news today... I am not sure how it will all work out so I need to be a little private about a few things.

One thing I have to be is practical. Most likely I will not be going to Austria with Phyllis this summer (unless someone writes a check to the music boosters for my trip). I've got to stay home and be... well... practical. It's almost $4000/each. And I am going to be in need of a new furnace/air conditioner (not now but soon) and it seems far more practical to buy a car for that money than a week's vacation. I know I know... the memories, it's a once in a lifetime thing. I was even told that I was putting God in a box, meaning that God can provide. Yes, I know. In my little mind, I get what God can do, He can do exceedingly abundantly more than we ask for or even think. Yes, I know.

BUT! I also know that God does not call us to be wasteful or impractical. He expects us to be wise with our blessings. I know! Yes, I KNOW that we reap what we sow, that we take care of the fields in the spring/summer, and we reap a great harvest in the winter.

I'll tell you this, I love God, I know that He loves me more. I will pray for that check to be written, but I will save. I will put away like I should. It means no eating out (or at least a lot less of it), it means no frivalous spending.

It's time to start preparing for a grand harvest!

Gal 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

The things you learn while working with Youth...

Most lessons I think are geared towards the youth. Today Adam taught about being a Jesus freak. I love Jesus. Would I call myself a "freak"? Probably not, though someone else might. I think in order for that classification, I need to step it up a notch.

But that's not the lesson I learned today. We had Icris come and worship with us. He gave part of his testimony as well. I don't remember at what point he said "don't worry about the economy". Let me just tell you, I've been "concerned", I think that was my way of saying I'm worried but I didn't want to say worry, because i know I'm not supposed to worry. If it quacks like a duck... it's probably a duck. There is nothing I can do about the economy. I can take care of my home front. I can freeze my veggies, I can pray, and I can remember that I can really only depend on one thing. Jesus. I can't worry about the $400K vacation of the AIG executives, I could hope that this will all turn around, and it will. But that's not really where my hope needs to be, my hope is in Christ. He's all I need.

Hebrews 3:6 But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.

Homemade Salsa

5 tomatoes
1 onion
1/2 c fresh cilantro
3 cloves garlic
1 T lime juice
1 jalapeno pepper

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Pierce the skin of the tomatoes, drop them in the water until the skin begins to peel (only takes like 20 seconds), remove tomatoes, drop into cold water, peel tomatoes.

chop onions, garlic, jalapeno pepper, lime juice in food processor. Put in bowl. Chop cilatro in food processor, add to onion mixture. Then chop tomatoes to desired constancy, I put mine in the food processor (got all the yummy bits out too!).

Mix all ingredients together in bowl. Chill until ready to serve.

Reminders of loves passed

The last week I've been completely reminded of how much I was loved when I was younger. I remember those passed loves in many different ways...

I remember when I was younger my Aunt Dee. Her family is really the only family I have on my mom's side. They loved my mom, and they love me. Even sometimes when I'm unloveable. My cousin works at Block's a farm market in our area. Let's just say I went a little overboard there this weekend, huge box of tomatoes, 50 lb (yes that's right 50 lbs!) bag of potatoes (I will mash and freeze for the winter), apples, etc. My cousin Kathy, Aunt Dee's daughter has worked there part time for as long as I can remember so when I go there, I always think of her and how much she loves me. My Aunt Dee was a big harvester. She canned, and during certain peak vegetable times, that's what we ate, tomato sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches (not fancy kind, yummy bread with a big ole blob of cream cheese, and cukes salt & peppered to perfection - I was the only one to eat them with her). I have been reminded how much that family loves me, even in the simple things like scheduling a birthday celebration on a Saturday instead of a Sunday so we can come (it might not seem like much to you, but it meant a TON to me!).

Yesterday Telegraph was shut down between West Chicago & Joy Road. My gram had lived about a mile from there. Since I knew the area so well, I quickly hopped off the main road and made my way to West Parkway where she lived and took a little detour. It's a road I've traveled probably 100's of times, if not 1000's. The park on the corner, the house that had the pool, the long awaited anticipation for family holidays and her lasagna that she taught me how to make, and pot roast, and tomato juice sprinkled with celery salt and pinkoning cheese after church while waiting for dinner ) always Steak & roni's (with ketchup).

Speaking with a friend of my dad's this morning over breakfast, it was a "chance" meeting, we talked about the Youth, and we talked about jacked up parents everywhere, but no matter what, not matter the mistakes my dad made, I always knew I was loved.

My heart feels like it's about to explode in love, I can't wait to let other people they are loved too!

1 John 4:18-19 18There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
19We love because he first loved us

Learning to love... again

I've almost laughed out loud this week, God has put people in my life asking for my friendship (and I guess advice) only for me to think "you should take your own advice".

I'm learning to love myself a little more each day. Finding that I really do like who I am, and by "the world's" standards I'm a complete dork. I've got the gift of homemaking and taking care of my family first. It seems like a lost gift because so many people are all about me. I wish I could scream "if you put others first and make them happy, you don't really realize the things that dont' make you happy. smiles are contagious and so is love".

I'm figuring out who I am in Christ. I'm remembering that if it were only me, He still would have gotten up on that cross, because in Christ, I'm loved. And maybe even possibly beautiful :) (no matter how much I weigh).

I'm finding joy in seeing God's blessings wherever I go. I'm finding inspiration in the simpleness that others are living. I'm finding love around every corner (and in the straight-a-ways too). I'm learning where to look to find what I need instead of expecting it to come to me.

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.”- Proverbs 19:20-21

Will work for food

I’ve become quite the dork lately about freezing food…

I made homemade spaghetti sauce and froze it.
I’ve bought bunches upon bunches of broccoli (2 for $.99), it’s been steamed and frozen.

Green beans are ready to be snapped and steamed… and frozen. I picked up a 2 pound bag for $.49 the other day. I believe that was a gift from God.

This weekend will be Salsa, applesauce, and probably more spaghetti sauce.

I would love to can, however, I don’t have all the equipment to do it, so freezing is my way to go for now. I’ll be watching for clearance canning goods.

I’ve noticed a lot of things, one being that freezer bags are SO expensive. And the Ziploc bags are twice as much as the no brand ones. And I’ve purchased them both. And the Ziploc bags are no better than the cheap ones. They are just more expensive.

I don’t know if you shop at the big chain stores, in our area it’s Kroger and Meijer. I do, for some things, but I go to Aldi’s and Savealot for most of the essentials because it’s ridiculous how much Meijer and Kroger have to charge for a name brand (even their own name brand). The real deal at Kroger is cheese.

I will tell you that from onions to ice cream Aldi’s (and Savealot) food quality is just as good, if not better than the M&K. The prices are sometimes half as much! Yes! Sometimes it’s twenty cents but sometimes, it’s a dollar.

I am single mom so I’ve always had to be frugal when it comes to groceries. I feed a lot more than the two of us. There’s not much meat in our fridge that doesn’t have a yellow/orange sticker that is a lot less than the regular price (the biggest exception to that is frozen chicken). I like to do fun things, I like to not fret over gas money, and I do like to hit Panera every so often, and if I don’t shop at A & S, and can, and garden, I’d be in a different financial position that I am in. And my financial position isn’t stellar, but thank You Jesus, we’re not starving!

Gen 1:25 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.

Now why didn't I think of that?

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” Ben Franklin

Why am I surprised that the best things I do are lead by God? And how preparing always reaps the best harvest...

Yesterday when I met my friend, I let God go before me. And it was just as it should be. And when I pray on my way to work about whatever... they are the best days ever. I know that in order for our Youth Ministries and anything we do to succeed, it must be lead by prayer. It's the ultimate preparation.

I was thinking about that today. About how when I let God lead, it's the best way. I was checking out a website today, Mrs. Darling, I don't read her all that often, but when I do, I'm almost surrounded by God because of her simpleness and her preparation for her family.

Today when I am done here, I will snap green beans and steam them in order to have them this winter. I have sliced zucchini in order to use it in whatever treat it will be in. In the old days they prepared for the winter. They prepared so there was harvest in the winter as well as the summer/fall.

I am one who prepares. I like to think of every detail, check my list (sometimes double check it), I feel that its the best way to live. I know I do my best when I am prepared. If I pack our lunches and prepare everything for breakfast the night before, I get to sleep a few minutes later. I know that if the meat is thawed for dinner preparation, we eat sooner. An ounce of preparation means that I don't gain a pound later because I eat before I'm ravenous. And its way less stress to live a life prepared.

In that same way, when the path is prepared by God, its smoother and more pleasureable than if I try to prepare it or go at it without any preparation... it's the only way to go.

Psalm 85:13 Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.

He uses us if we are willing

I called her today. She needed someone to pray for her and asked if I could meet her. Funny thing is, in the craziness of my schedule, I had about 1 1/2 hours. I honestly didn't know what I would say, my head hasn't been that clear and my heart is worse. So I did the only thing I know to do. I prayed. Whatever You need her to hear, Lord, just say it, my voice Your words.

So we met, and not only do I think that I helped her, get closer to Him, I got closer to Him. In His words for her, I heard His words for me. As if to put a mirror in front of me and speak directly to my heart, and hers.

I don't know why, because I know how big God is, I know He's loving, trustworthy, BIG and small at the same time, I know He does all, makes all, loves all, He's grace and mercy giving, and yet, I'm still surprised at how much He loves me and that He finds me in all places, in all times. And that He loves me enough to even want to find me.

And no matter what I am going through, no matter how small I feel or weak, He is all the strength I need.

Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength

liar liar?

I came across something yesterday... and I was kind of shocked. When someone told me that so&so copies everything from you-know-whos website, I thought they were exaggerating.

So when does imiatation is the greatest from of flattery cross the line into stealing/cheating?

If you take someone's idea but then put your own twist to it, it's really not stealing, but you did cheat a little for the idea. I've done this before, I see a blog that I LOVE but I have a different outlook on it so I write my own. I do this with Sara's blogs all the time, although she is a better writer than me... I just have a different way of thinking about it.

How about if I like a scripture she's posted but I write my own blog? That's just imitation...

However, if I right the same words as her, use the same scripture, but change the picture or add a video, is that stealing or cheating? But what if she says "anyone can use my stuff, I'm that good". I should give full credit to her right?

I'm just wondering because I came across something, and I was shocked, I kind of felt betrayed in a way, but maybe I should have listened when they said "so&so copies everything from you-know-whos website".

mmmm... makes me think...

Proverbs 14:25 A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is deceitful.

Dancing with and without music

A good part of my life I’ve been a pretty good dancer. I mean, you wouldn’t really see me out on a dance floor doing the Macarena or the Hustle, by dancing I mean doing the moves in life to put on a good show.

I’ve said before the times in my life when people thought I had it most together, house, great job, working really hard, hot boyfriend, working out, thin, always looking great, daughter was in private school, battling a chronic illness, I could really dance. I mean, I had the moves… I could have been on soul train. But I was living a life that behind closed doors you would have gasped. Sin everywhere. EVERYWHERE. I had to sometimes lock the closets and barcade them because skeltons were falling out.

But here’s the thing, I wasn’t really that happy. You know why? Because I didn’t hear any music. I could bluff my way through, maybe hearing a beat or two but really, no song in my heart. It was a pretty lonely life if you want to know the truth.

I remember the day I heard the first note. I can tell you the first song I heard. It was March 14, 2004. The song, Draw Me Close to You. I cried through the whole thing. I knew I needed God, I even knew where to find Him. I knew the rules, but I needed the relationship. I needed the song.
I know the song now. I know what it feels like to have a hug from God. I know what it means to rejoice in Him, I know what it feels like be on my knees before Him. But I still struggle. I still have a few of the things that I mentioned before, I have a good job, the house, the daughter is now cured from the illness. I still have some of the same moves, I would say I am at the box step level. You know, 1-2-3-4 all in a box. It’s a pretty sweet step, but the best part is now I hear the music. I’ve been struggling a lot lately with the steps, a little worried that if I started dancing again, I mean really dancing, that I’d forget to listen to the music. And sometimes I start box-stepping so fast, I forget why I’m dancing.

I don’t know why, but I’ve never really had a music teacher. A lot of people have mentors, someone that meets with them once a week or even just once a month to help them through things, to cry with, guide, laugh with, whatever it is. Even people who are older than me have that in girlfriends or some spiritual leader or an accountability partner of some sort in their lives. At least it sure seems like it to me. I’ve never really had that, I’ve kind of gotten a few lessons hear and there but mostly, I’ve just done it on my own with prayer. I’ve been thinking a lot lately that it would be great to have someone who is that in my life for more than just a phone call.

I guess now that I hear the music, I want to graduate to the Rumba.

Luke 7:32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other: " 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.'
Oh… and I got this analogy from speaking with a Darin from Grace Centers of Hope, it’s just been on my mind since we spoke…

I've had a really busy two weeks, this weekend, I think I've only been home a short time except to sleep and when I've been home, it's picking up and cooking. Crazy as it sounds it's been a great weekend!

1. Surprise Party for Adam. I was very excited when Katie asked me to cook the food for it! He was so surprised!! I laughed when three people who arguing (not really arguing but having a discussion) about Calvinism and Armenism (sp?). I kind of just chuckled... and thought... you're all silly, it's a not something that is called out in the bible, it's a theory on theology. Our God is Sovereign. Our God is not so small that He needs you to decide which side of the fence you're on, He is BIG. It makes me laugh.

2. Sometimes its necessary to sluff off a little in order to get recharged... Yesterday I should have stayed home and cleaned, the dust bunnies are starting to attack, like every week when there has been a lot in front of us, the house is cluttered but I decided last night that i really wanted to go to Scarecrowfest and see the Alive band in Battle of the Bands. So I did. I threw caution to the wind (HA!) and didn't clean but relaxed and got to know someone a little better than I did before. I came home after being in the fall crisp air and thought "God is so good to me". The dust will probably accumulate for one more week... Oh well, it is well with my soul.

3. If you are interested in the Sisterhood of the traveling scarf, I am going to do it! Email me your name, address, phone number, blog if you have it (if you don't it's ok) and we will get started. If you only visit my blog once in awhile, we would love to have you as part of this. I am thinking of how to organize it (and I'll run it by my sister Sara to make sure I am not overlooking some small detail). I think it's a great idea!

4. Homemade Spaghetti Sauce for the first time... I doubled the recipe, I hope it's good! HA! If it turns out well, I am going to make another batch and put it aside for the long winter! I figure two batches might last us for awhile!
And homemade applesauce.... mmm... this is one of my favorite things of the season!
I also got about 5 pounds of green beans from Block's, I was thinking about Sara and her grandpa... I can't wait to snap them and steam them, and freeze them for some yummy treats of summer flavor for this summer.

If you think...

I've done a lot of thinking about myself this week. i know... completely selfish (maybe that's part of my problem)

I've been working being healthier (which means body and spirit). Planning to run a 5K in May.

Only to have people say...

1. You should do one in November, basically why wait?

2. You're beautiful over and over again by people who read my blog, thinking it's going to help the way I feel about myself.

All of this makes me so uncomfortable but here's my heartfelt response...

1. I don't want to run the 5K in November , this is a process for me, just like my 3 day walk. It's not really so much about the run, it's about what needs to take place in my heart to do the run, just like the 3day.

2. You can tell me over and over again that I'm beautiful, it doesn't make me believe it anymore the more you say it, actually it makes it worse because I feel like you're saying it to try to convince me of something that isn't true, like an Obama commercial. This is something that I need to work through and someone saying that I'm beautiful seriously sets me back one step for each step forward I take.

So really, if you think you are helping, it's not. I have to work this out on my own...

Ecc 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

The beauty of this being my blog... it means I can blog as much in one day as I want :~) I got this in an email, and I sat there with tears in my eyes, my heart must have needed to hear it. I thought I would share! And ... in case you haven't yet this year... go get your mammogram!

Real Mother don't eat quiche; they don't have time to make it.

Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils are probably in the sandbox.

Real Mothers often have sticky floors, filthy ovens and happy kids.

Real Mothers know that dried play dough doesn't come out of carpets.

Real Mothers don't want to know what the vacuum just sucked up.

Real Mothers sometimes ask 'Why me?' and get their answer when a little
voice says, 'Because I love you best.'

Real Mothers know that a child's growth is not measured by height or years or grade...It is marked by the progression of Mommy to Mom to Mother...

The Images of Mother

4 YEARS OF AGE - My Mommy can do anything!

8 YEARS OF AGE - My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!

12 YEARS OF AGE - My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.

14 YEARS OF AGE - Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.

16 YEARS OF AGE - Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.

18 YEARS OF AGE - That old woman? She's way out of date!

25 YEARS OF AGE - Well, she might know a little bit about it.

35 YEARS OF AGE - Before we decide, let's get Mom' s opinion.

45 YEARS OF AGE - Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?

65 YEARS OF AGE - Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair .. The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul .. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she hows, and the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows!

10 things I love

A busy week

It's been a busy week, even for me. It's been a week full of blessings!

Alive was Sunday, I love the kids at Alive. The bless my life so!

Monday was Fuel, 6,7,8! We started the Fuelympics which is a smaller outreach than we do in the spring! We reached 30% more kids this week than we did last week!! More lives that will be changed by Jesus. As busy as it is on Mondays, as tired as I am on Mondays, it's all worth it!

Tuesday was our Alive Staff meeting! Believe it or not, I love these! I like to see all that's going on, work on things we need to work on, and love where we need to love!

Last night I watched Ava and Lana! I honestly am not that great with little little ones, but those two, man, they bring a different kind of joy to our lives. Smiles and giggles, wrestling on the floor and tickling! I always make Ava special 'parfait' when she comes to our house. Yogurt, fresh blueberries, and mini choc chips, last night we even added some fresh peach! YUM!

Tonight we are going to a wedding! Yes on a Thursday, I love weddings that have Jesus at the center of them! The two getting married are so cute together!! Oh my!!

Tomorrow I am speaking at a school and a few other things! I'm excited!

I hope Saturday I can get some house cleaning done, because that maid has really been falling down on her job (LOL... I don't have a maid but I always blame "the maid" when things are a wreck).

I hope you're having a good week! I've been drinking water (and peeing) and eating lots of fruits and veggies (and that means pooping too!) I feel really good, I hope to get out for a walk at lunch today!

I also set a goal of running a 5K in May for a Breast Cancer Benefit! I'm pretty excited about that! I think it's an attainable goal as well as a good cause! More later!
